Lost without my Handbag..oh My!

What is in her handbag?

 Woohoo–I’m baaack! ,

Once, I knew this foxy young hunk of a guy.  He was a rare sensitive type  (they do exist), and he told me he was about to propose to a sweet young thing. Lo and behold, one day he accidentally glanced into her handbag, and he was so devastated by what he saw, he cancelled the proposal. The image he’d had of this pretty girl was destroyed in an instant, once he’d seen the untidy, lipstick spotted, powder dusted contents. And, worst of all (brace yourself) a fruit drop had stuck to the silk lining of the bag.

The thing you will miss seeing most frequently in a woman’s handbag these days is …..money.  It’s hardly worth it for a pickpocket to accept the risk of stealing your bag, except for the fact that an astonishing number of women carry their precious belongings in their handbags. We carry all this stuff around for fear that our goodies may be stolen or “misplaced” in our closets or drawers. My personal favorite fear is when I put something valuable in a “special place” in order to increase it’s security. That place is so special that sometimes I can’t remember where it was, if I can remember what it was I put there. Fess up, who out there has pulled off this the same way I just described?   No wonder we read about women who have left their handbags in a taxicab, with jewels in them that were worth thousands of dollars!  Isn’t it strange that women wear junk jewelry around their necks, while at the same time carry precious jewelry in the zippered compartment of their handbags. (not me by the way)

Some psychologists proclaim that the way a woman carries her handbag is a characteristic.  the term “Bagology” is a cool term that has become a science in itself as far as psychologists  are concerned.  There’s the strap type, the shoulder-strap type, and the woman who tucks her bag under her arm. There are even a great number of women who hold their bags both by the straps, and under the arm. Don’t you just love the way “Bagology” just rolls off the tip of your tongue?  Seen from a psychologist’s point of view,  he way a woman carries her purse demonstrates the entire scale of  her characteristics, from light-mindedness and generosity to caution and  greediness.  One analyst warns men about women who keep their bag rolled around their wrist, and the hand firmly clenched around the lock.  Hey, what would you be thinking if you were a guy, and went  a first date with a woman like this!  There may just be something to these ivory tower theories after all.  I wonder how many of you thought to yourself, “yuk- this one’s too paranoid for me”  Perhaps you are not quite able to empathize with the idea of being a guy, if but for a moment?

Hmmmm–food for thought, isn’t it?

***I hope you’re enjoying reading these as much as I’m enjoying writing to you all. Oh, by the way, it would be really nice if someone would write me back someday. Your comments on my commentaries are always welcome, and you don’t even have to agree with me.

C’mon, let’s play!!

                                                  Lost without my Handbag!

A A Woman’s Magical Handbagwoman without her handbag feels as lost as a wanderer in the desert.  And, she wants it large.  The handbag is the movable base of her supplies-the- depot of her expected needs. These eventual needs may reach out to a degree far beyond any man’s power of imagination. A woman’s handbag is a mysterious dungeon.  It’s the key to her real self.

A magician does not want to explain his tricks.  There is an auroa of taboo about a closed handbag.  Every woman has an uneasy look if someone glances into it’s sacred privacy.  A decent man should always tactfully stare at the ceiling whenever his companion opens her bag.  He will, of course, have to concentrate on that ceiling pretty often.  The typical handbag of a typical woman contains a certain number of fundamental things-plus her own individual touch.  It is that individual touch that fills the bag.  Some item is likly to roll out the moment the bag is opened.

Every woman’s handbag is a lost and found department in itself.  It is storage, but things actually disappear there, as if by magic.  Later they finally reappear on the surface after three or four investigations, and in complete disarray.

A man carries everything is his numerous comfortably deep pockets.  It is estimated that a man wearing a suit with a vest and an overcoat has twenty pockets.  No wonder he can never lose anything!

Women have also adapted pockets to their suits and coats. The most genuine are just fit to put hands into.  The others are good enough for a chiffon handkerchief to peep out of or they are faked.  No woman’s suit pocket is meant to hold her belongings.  Every bulge would endanger the slim line and the smart effect. So, women continue to carry handbags.  As long as women don’t wear men’s suits with pockets, they will remain women.(thank goodness)  Of course, men will continue to feel superior.  The first thing Adam purchased for Eve was a handbag.

It was his sweet revenge for the apple………to be continued

Sienna Miller Syndrome:

Sienna Miller Syndrome–Why a woman owns 111 handbags in her lifetime–

You ask yourself, “Am I absolutely crazy out of my mind?” Why would anyone even consider spending on average $14,937.59 for handbags? Yet, according to researchers, the average 30 year old owns 21 handbags, and buys a new one every 3 months. Over a lifetime that works out to 111 handbags, and that huge figure above. Go ahead, look at it again. With the average outlay of $141.90, OMG, no wonder!!! And, get this, of the 30 year olds surveyed, 5% admitted owning over 100 handbags already.  Geeesh!!

If we can get past sticker shock, you might find yourself asking (yep, still talking to yourself),  “do I really need this many handbags during my life.”  With people like Lindsay Lohan and Sienna Miller setting the trend, no wonder many women are spending a small fortune on expensive designer brands. This, from 1500 shoppers that a researcher* was asking about their handbags.  So, there you have it, have we all gone crazy? The answer might be yes and no. This tidbit emerged from the research*, and is certainly more realistic, if you think about it. Ready–Typically women use three handbags on a regular basis, changing to suit the occasion, outfit, or even their mood.  The rest are safely stored “just in case”.  Do you fit this profile at all??

Many handbags are passed down though generations, according to the survey, with one in eight women owning one bag more than 50 years old.  That’s kind of hard to believe, I know. When asked what the most they ever spent on a bag, the average 20 somethings replied, $345.48 (obviously working professionals, don’t you think?). If you think that’s more than you’d spend, the average from this survey of 30 something spent an eye-popping $709.55!!!

When asked why they hoard so many handbags seven in 10 answered, “you never know what they’ll go with” Are we laughing yet, or does this describe you, too?  One woman stated in her survey, “Handbags can change your whole look and transform a plain outfit into one that’s set to impress.”  One in five women said that they are so fond of their handbags, that sentimental value stops them from throwing them away”.

So, ladies as we head for the finish line, what have we learned here.  It’s clear from the results of this research that British women (oops, I forgot to mention that earlier) have some sort of handbag obsession. I don’t know of an American survey of women and their handbags, but if you do, please let me know and I’ll be happy to have fun with that survey, also.

For most of us, owning a handbag is a lifestyle necessity, rather than a fashion accessory. Having one, two, three or four just won’t do, and sooner or later we give in.
We’re all just lucky, whether British, American, or whatever our nationalities are that there is a nice down home place to shop and buy superb handbags, and not spend a queen’s ransom and that place, of course would be Hildashandbags.  Have a nice day, all!!
Do drop by, again…..
